How to keep your griddle in the best condition for longer

The best thing about using griddles for cooking is that it requires minimum usage of oil so for the health conscious ones, it is a better option. Griddles can be used for cooking almost anything – pancakes, grilled cheese, oatcakes, crepes and a lot more. While cooking on a griddle, there is an even distribution of heat so the food is cooked thoroughly.

This equipment runs either on gas or on electricity. It is suitable for home cooking as well as professional kitchens.Your cooking can become much healthier and more efficient using griddles however it is very important to choose the right type of griddle and use it properly. Here are some helpful tips for you to make your griddle more durable –

• During cooking – Before you start cooking, let the griddle warm up for a few minutes so that the heat gets distributed evenly. Different types of griddles have their own heating time so it is better to consult the user manual to know for how long you should allow it to heat.

• During grease draining – It is very important to remove the grease completely for health reasons once you have used it for cooking. Some of the griddles have this feature using which the oil can be easily removed.

• During cleaning – Always use a soft scrubber and a mild soap for cleaning the griddle as a harsh one can remove the non- stick coating from the upper layer. Hot water can help get rid of the stubborn grease with ease. Due to easy cleaning feature, steel griddles are preferred. 

• Maintenance – As you wash the griddle after using it, apply a few drops of cooking oil to its surface with a paper to help it retain its smooth upper layer and avoid scratching. Use wooden kitchen accessories with the cookware to prevent scrape marks on it.
